But why do cats love sitting in boxes and other bowls, cans, and containers? Well, there are a couple of reasons. Cats tend to like snuggling into tight spaces, and boxes can give them that feeling instantly. They also provide a 360-degree shield that prevents anything from sneaking up on them, and purrfectly containing all their body heat to stay warm. We all know how much cats love warm things, like when they lie on top of the heating vent and steal all the heat in your house.

In the wild, cats are both predators and prey, meaning that they have instincts that deal with both of those needs. The predator needs a place to hide to ambush its prey, and the prey also has a desire to be purrfectly concealed. What do these things have in common? The love of being sneaky. So, boxes allow cats to “conceal” themselves while still giving them the opportunity to strike, if need be. A box is the purrfect fortress for such an activity.

More than anything, though, we think they just like it. And we love it too. We know that if we ever need to get our cat to do something, all we have to do is put out a cardboard box and wait for them to get in. It's the easiest way to not only find your cat, but also transport them around the house.
